Cat Dome

This looks like a good idea, doesn't it? If your cat is like mine, she can throw litter clear across the room. A friend refers to her cat's Olympic Litter Throwing talent. My cat not only spreads the litter for everyone to step in, whether we like it or not, but she doesn't have the best, er, aim when it comes to doing her business. I don't actually have this dome featured in this photo, my friend Ellie does, and I thought "gosh, that looks like a good idea". Where does one find such a thing? Ellie had her father drag this on the plane from Toronto, but I'm hoping I can find something similar in this province. It would be nice to have something that is not only contained but also esthetically pleasing. If you know about things like this, please get in touch!

  1. I had a covered cat box for a long time and my cat still managed to toss litter out of it. I thought about picking up the same litter box (the dome one) when someone suggested this top loading cat box called Clevercat http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754439

This particular cat box ended up working out really well for me. My cat loves the privacy she gets (she's very particular) and it has cut back on the litter all over the place by a lot! I mean, I only need to vacuum once every couple of months, where it used to be weekly to pick up all the litter.

    Just another suggestion for you.

  2. You know it's funny - I can't remember the last time I set foot in a pet store. I once had a friend who worked in a pet store and after he told me how awful the animals were treated, I sort of vowed never to go back. And yet. I looked at the box you mentioned, Lee, and I bet that would be a good one for my kitty. She *loves* climbing into boxes, and I can see that this would be easy to clean.

After looking at your link, I found the dome on the PetSmart website, read a few of the reviews. Some of them were not so favorable and I can see how the top entry box is better design.

All that's left now is to someday take the journey to the City (Nananimo, about a two hour drive from here) and go to the pet store. Thanks for your suggestion!

  3. I'm so glad I was able to catch you before you bought the dome! I think my other issue was that at the time I didn't have a lot of spare money or room to spend on the big dome box. The other one fits perfectly under a table in the craft room with plenty of space for my kitty to get in and out. She still does her "paw, paw, paw, scratchy, scratchy, fling, fling, fling" nonsense, but it doesn't make nearly the mess!

I hope you're able to find one. And believe me, I try not to go to pet stores either, but Petsmart and Petco don't sell animals that aren't shelter/adoption animals. I feel less bad buying from them. ;)
